About the Event

Curator Connor Gaudet will give a "teaser" talk on the upcoming summer exhibit: Wanderer 100: The Afterlife & Legacy of Mattapoisett's Last Whaler" at this year's Annual Meeting. This talk/meeting is open to all but only Mattapoisett Museum Members will be asked to vote on new Board Members and changes in by-laws. Self-serve refreshments will be available.

There will be one by-law change proposal to be voted on. Please review the following proposed language change:

This is the written notification that these changes to the bylaws will be presented for your vote at the annual meeting. If you will not be present, you are welcome to send your proxy vote to president@mattapoisettmuseum.org.

Mattapoisett Historical Society By-laws

Proposed change to Article IV

We propose that the new Article IV should read:

“Article IV. Nominating & Governance Committee

The Nominating & Governance Committee (“Committee”) shall assist the Board of Directors of the Mattapoisett Historical Society (DBA Mattapoisett Museum) in fulfilling its responsibilities with respect to matters relating to governance of the Society, assessing staff and Board performance, and in identifying and recommending to the Board candidates to be Directors of the Society.

Nominating & Governance Committee shall report at the Annual Meeting submitting a list of persons to serve as officers and directors for the ensuing year.

Nominations for any office may be made by any member present at the Annual Meeting,

provided such nominations are duly seconded by at least two other members. If there is no

contest for any office, the Secretary may be instructed to cast one ballet. If there is a contest,

the vote shall be taken by written ballot.

A majority of voting members present shall be required to elect.”

Article IV current content:

“ARTICLE IV. Nomination and Election of Officers and Directors

During the month of July in each year the President shall appoint three members to be a

Nominating Committee which shall report at the Annual Meeting submitting a list of persons to

serve as officers and directors for the ensuing year.

In the event the President is unable to fulfill his or her duties, it shall be the duty of the Board of

Directors to appoint the Nominating Committee.

Nominations for any office may be made by any member present at the Annual Meeting,

provided such nominations are duly seconded by at least two other members. If there is no

contest for any office, the Secretary may be instructed to cast one ballet. If there is a contest,

the vote shall be taken by written ballot.

A majority of voting members present shall be required to elect.”
